Alice & Oliver | The Normans Weddings

Alice & Oliver | The Normans Weddings

Alice & Oliver got married at The Normans on July 6th 2019. Anyone who is a regular blog reader will know how much I love this Yorkshire barn wedding venue, not to mention how many times I’ve shot here!

The great thing about having your venue in a rustic barn wedding venue is the blank canvas that you start with. It looks stunning untouched, which is why so many couples fall in love with The Normans and book it for their big day, but it also means you can add as many little or big touches as you like.

Alice and Oliver had candles lining the aisle, flowers on each aisle-end chair, and two huge floral bouquets at the top of the aisle. They also had their acoustic singer sitting up on top of the little platform at the back of the ceremony barn, playing throughout the ceremony. And wait until you see the pictures of the reception marquee (fondly known as the grain shed by the venue staff). Complete with fairy lights. flowers, rose-gold runners, and one of the best things I’ve ever seen at a wedding… a doughnut wall!

The day started for me in Horsforth with Alice, her bridesmaids and her flower girls. It was so nice to watch the flower girls hugging their (soon to be official) auntie and receiving their gifts, which were wedding-inspired build-a-bear’s.
It was a really relaxed morning and, other than the girls forgetting the flowers, it went without a hiccup!

Alice arrived at the venue in a vintage wedding car and greeted her excitedly awaiting flower girls. They were fabulous at making their way up the aisle, delicately sprinkling rose petals as they went and wearing huge smiles!

The ceremony was beautiful, Alice got very emotional, which in turn made me emotional! (I get teary at the best of times, but because Alice is a friend of mine, it made it all the more special to be a part of). Alice and Oliver both exchanged beautifully personal vows too. One line in their vows which particularly stood out to me was, “there will be days ahead when we must actively choose one another”. How true is that. Marriage isn’t always easy but what matters is that on the hardest of days, you keep that commitment and you keep choosing the other person, and that way you can get through anything.

We had great weather for the photos, and it was great to have some requests from Alice for some specific shots she wanted, both in terms of poses and locations at the venue.

A stunning meal followed the speeches and then the evening guests arrived, and then the party got started with a DJ & Sax combo which was fantastic!
